Simpson to Visit New Orleans

Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson, a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, this weekend will visit the City of New Orleans and tour areas undergoing reconstruction and preparation for the upcoming hurricane season. The Energy and Water Development Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all funding for the Army Corps of Engineers and its hurricane recovery efforts.

"I'm looking forward to visiting the New Orleans area and getting a better understanding of what happened last year and how we are preparing for this year's hurricane season," said Simpson. "The Energy and Water Subcommittee is charged not only with assisting the Army Corps of Engineers in Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts, it is responsible for ensuring taxpayers funds are spent wisely and appropriately. This visit will help us allocate resources to those projects that are most worthy of taxpayer support and necessary for the recovery and protection of the gulf coast."
