U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to upgrade the safety and passenger experience at MARTA's Five Points downtown station.

In a U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing today, Sen. Ossoff committed to working with MARTA Interim CEO and General Manager Collie Greenwood and U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to advance the project, which calls for an improved passenger experience with a redesigned station, lighting upgrades, and a new open plaza.

"I commit to you that I will do everything I can working with Secretary Buttigieg to see to it that we can upgrade the Five Points station -- the hub of MARTA's heavy rail system -- and ensure that it is the safest and best hub possible for riders in metro Atlanta," Sen. Ossoff said in the hearing.

SEN. OSSOFF: "You mentioned in your opening remarks the Five Points Station and MARTA is providing service across the metro Atlanta region. Mr. Chairman, Lovejoy, Riverdale, College Park, East Point, Decatur, all the way up to Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Alpharetta. Five Points Station is the hub. And I want to urge you, Mr. Greenwood to submit that application for the resources to help upgrade that facility, particularly with a view toward increasing capacity and passenger safety, and commit to you that I will do everything I can working with Secretary Buttigieg to see to it that we can upgrade the Five Points Station the hub of MARTA's heavy rail system and ensure that it is the safest and best hub possible for riders in metro Atlanta."

MR. GREENWOOD: "Thank you, Senator Ossoff."
