Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) recently co-sponsored the bipartisan Postal Service Reform Act to make needed financial and operational reforms to the United States Postal Service.
"The U.S. Postal Service provides essential services for many North Dakotans, ranging from business functions, to receiving prescriptions, to staying in touch with family," said Congressman Armstrong. "I am proud to support the Postal Service Reform Act, which will help put the USPS on the road to fiscal stability, make it more efficient and sustainable, and ensure continued service for the American people."
The Postal Service's financial condition has been deteriorating over the past decade due to a number of factors. The provisions included in the Postal Service Reform Act are critical to helping the Postal Service remain financially viable. The provisions include Medicare integration, repealing a requirement for the Postal Service to pre-fund retiree health benefits, service performance reporting, reporting on Postal Service operations and finances, the requirement that the Postal Service operates six days per week, and other matters.
The bill has passed the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and awaits a floor vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.
