Governor Kate Brown Invokes the Emergency Conflagration Act in Response to the Middle Fork Complex

Governor Kate Brown invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act yesterday in response to the Middle Fork Complex burning in Lane County. The complex is made up of multiple fires in the Willamette National Forest, covering an estimated 3,703 acres; there are Level 1 and 3 evacuations in place. The Office of the State Fire Marshal Red Incident Management Team has assumed unified command with the Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 3.

"As we are in the middle of another very challenging fire season, now is a good time for Oregonians to make a preparedness plan and get 2 Weeks Ready," said Governor Brown. "A good first step is to sign up to receive emergency notifications by visiting oralert.gov. I encourage all Oregonians to understand wildfire risks, pay attention to fire restrictions, and be sure to check in with friends and family members who may need help to get disaster prepared."

In accordance with ORS 476.510-476.610, Governor Brown determined that a threat to life, safety, and property exist due to the fire, and the threat exceeds the firefighting capabilities of local firefighting personnel and equipment. The Governor's declaration cleared the way for the State Fire Marshal to mobilize firefighters and equipment to assist local resources battling the fire.

The Office of the State Marshal's Red Incident Management Team and four taskforces from Clackamas, Lane, Linn, and Marion Counties have been mobilized.
