Rep. Williams' Statement Defending Fort Hood Communities

Statement

Date: May 5, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Roger Williams (TX-25) issued the statement below following his Fort Hood Community Roundtable:

"I had a productive discussion with local elected officials, military veterans, and law enforcement officers regarding issues important to the military and military communities," said Congressman Williams. "I'd like to thank all of the participants for their unique points of view. Their valuable input allows me to better represent their interests in Washington, D.C. Our conversation included ensuring local input is incorporated into conversations regarding the future renaming of Fort Hood, modifying sexual assault policies in the military, and addressing the rising costs of living for Army families. The Fort Hood community is comprised of exceptional neighbors who care deeply about the safety and wellbeing of our servicemembers. There's no question that Fort Hood has garnered its share of headlines in the past year, and much like military communities around the globe, they face challenges that require robust discussion and collaborative solutions. I am committed to supporting policies that will effectively address the pervasiveness of sexual assault in the military while still allowing Commanders to maintain good order and discipline."
