Rep. Ralph Norman Statement on Removal of House Republican Conference Chair

Statement

Date: May 12, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Ralph Norman issued the following statement on Wednesday following House Republicans' vote to remove Rep. Liz Cheney as Conference chair:

"What the Republican Conference needs from its chair is both forward momentum and a unified front against liberal activism in the House. Rep. Cheney was not removed today because she voted to impeach President Trump. In fact, she already survived that vote (overwhelmingly) back in February.

"Instead, Rep. Cheney was removed because she allowed herself to become an icon of division within the Republican party -- a role that she appeared to embrace at times. Even for those who might agree with Rep. Cheney's position, it should be easy to understand that someone cannot be an effective leader of any organization while simultaneously being a vocal source of discord."
