Johnson Advocates for Defense Community Projects

United States Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) today submitted two requests for funding for national defense related community projects at Barksdale Air Force Base and Fort Polk Joint Readiness Training Center.

Details of the community projects are below:

Barksdale Air Force Base -- New Entrance Road and Gate Complex

Recipient: Department of the Air Force
Recipient Address: 1690 Air Force Pentagon, Washington, DC 20330
Requested Amount: $36 million
Explanation of Request: This project will dramatically increase safety and efficiency of movement into and out of the East side of Barksdale Air Force Base. It is a fully authorized project that will connect to a nearly-completed I-220 interchange and provide an additional entrance to the installation that is not encumbered by existing railroad and traffic constraints.

Fort Polk -- New Joint Operations Center

Recipient: Department of the Army
Recipient Address: The Pentagon, Washington, DC 20310
Requested Amount: $55 million
Explanation of Request: This request would fund the construction of a new Joint Operations Center (JOC) at Fort Polk. The JOC will function as the battle command center for all rotational training conducted at the installation. The current JOC was originally constructed as a classroom in 1967 and has been modified multiple times to meet mission requirements. A new JOC is necessary to support the ongoing training mission at Fort Polk and expand the capabilities of the installation.
