Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), the sole member of the Maryland delegation on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, hosted a virtual roundtable with Chairman Peter A. DeFazio (OR-04) on transportation priorities and how local infrastructure projects can benefit.

President Biden released the American Jobs Plan, an investment in our nation's future that will create millions of good jobs, rebuild our country's infrastructure and position the United States to remain competitive in the global economy.

The plan will ensure that no community is left behind in our recovery by investing $620 billion in transportation infrastructure, doubling federal funding for transit and creating a new $20 billion program to reconnect marginalized neighborhoods and ensure new projects increase opportunity and advance racial equity.

"We have a historic opportunity to revitalize communities, with equity and justice at the center of our efforts. Maryland faces many of the same challenges as the rest of our country. Alongside local leaders, we'll work hard to ensure our state's transportation needs are met and ensure we are investing and building for the future," said Congressman Brown. "We must be committed to building on the work localities in Maryland are doing to promote multi-modal, modern and green transportation systems while rebuilding our roads, bridges and water systems. Investing in local infrastructure creates good paying jobs and will ensure Maryland remains the best state place to live, work, raise a family and build a business."

"I thank Representative Brown and other leaders in Maryland for holding an important conversation on infrastructure at such a crucial time," said Chairman DeFazio. "As we work to move our infrastructure and transportation systems out of the Eisenhower era and into the 21st century, it's imperative that we hear from folks across the country, in communities both big and small. I'm grateful to have leaders like Representative Brown on my Committee working to make transformational investments in our transportation and infrastructure to both create jobs and ensure better access for all."
