Today, Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) announced his co-sponsorship of the District of Columbia-Maryland Reunion Act, originally introduced by Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD).
The bill would revert the residential areas of Washington, D.C. to the state of Maryland. Only the National Capitol Service Area (National Mall and federal buildings) would remain the District of Columbia. This process of retrocession was utilized by the state of Virginia, which took back it's part of D.C. in 1847.
"House Democrats are at it again. They're trying to make the Washington Swamp the 51st state and give them two Democrat senators. That's a total political power grab. Here's a better idea: I support a bill that would give all of the residential parts of DC back to Maryland. It's called retrocession. I say: Let's Make DC Maryland Again."
