Issue Position: Welcoming Immigrants and Refugees

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020
Issues: Immigration

Did you know that nearly 95% of refugees who come to our state settle in Upstate New York, and the majority of them find a home in the City of Buffalo? Immigrants and refugees are helping to stem the tide of population loss in Western New York and add to the rich cultural vibrancy of our region. New York State has a long tradition of being a welcoming home for immigrants from around the world. As the grandson of someone who came to New York from the Caribbean to find a better life, this issue is deeply personal to me. We must support our immigrant communities and the unique challenges they face. I will fight the Trump administration's continued efforts to restrict immigration and refugee resettlement, and when he is out of office, work to fix the damage he has done to our immigrant and refugee community.
