Issue Position

I'm proud of the work I've done to protect elderly and vulnerable Minnesotans. As chairwoman of the first-ever Minnesota Senate Aging & Long-Term Care Committee, I led the way in renewing our focus on our seniors and passing historic elder care reform--WCCO called me a "crusader for nursing home rights".

I was the chief author of the Elder Care and Vulnerable Adult Protection Act of 2019, which provides enhanced protections and rights for residents of senior living facilities and licenses assisted living facilities for the first time, bringing Minnesota in line with the rest of the nation. I also passed the Safe Seniors Financial Protection Acts, two bills that provide additional legal protections for older and vulnerable adults to prevent financial exploitation.
