Issue Position: Working Families

Issue Position

As an immigrant and a Black woman who went from working at McDonald's to serving my community as a lawyer, I am running for state representative to fight for middle class and working families, and to ensure our State House works for all of us, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

I will fight to pass a $15 minimum wage for every worker in Rhode Island -- and I'll advocate to make sure tipped workers don't get left behind.
We must also continue working to expand critical policies like paid sick days and paid family leave that our neighbors rely on.
In this pandemic, we have to ensure that all our frontline workers and healthcare heroes receive the hazard pay, personal protective equipment, and safety measures they deserve.
Too many working families are getting crushed by the increasing cost of housing. I will fight for a dedicated state funding stream for affordable housing -- something state leaders should have done long ago.
