I will champion increased prevention and health services for pregnant women, infants, children and adults. Three-fourths of all health spending goes to preventable chronic conditions, yet only 3 cents of every $1 spent goes to prevention and public health. We need to provide access to healthy food, preventive care and health education from prenatal to old age to save and improve lives, and make our dollars go farther to meet human needs.
We've also got to do more to prevent substance use and mental health issues by investing in evidence-based strategies in the early key developmental years for our children. Reinforcing our families' efforts with social-emotional learning and wrap-around services will help ensure more children can learn and thrive to their fullest potentials.
