Melissa has a proven record of being fiscally responsible and pro-business. As a Woonsocket City Councilor, Melissa supported budgets that reduced taxes, made key investments that resulted in long term savings, and improved the quality of life of residents. Those budgets stabilized taxes to increase the commercial base, and lowered taxes three years in a row.

As a small businesswoman, Melissa understands how difficult it can be to start up, own, and operate a small business. As a municipal legislator, Melissa sponsored and supported legislation that lowered or eliminated fees and regulations on businesses, and removed barriers and restrictions to operating a business in the city. She was a primary sponsor of the ordinance that created a Downtown Overlay District in Woonsocket, which won a GrowSmart RI award in 2016 and created opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and artists.
