All Rhode Islanders deserve equal access to educational opportunities. Melissa believes that all children deserve the same quality education regardless of the city or town in which they live. As a member of the Woonsocket City Council, Melissa sponsored legislation to reinstate all-day kindergarten before it was state-mandated, resulting in an economic surplus for the city. Melissa also recognizes the importance of having trades programs available to youth and adults. She sponsored legislation as a City Councilor for the city to maintain the Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center, a crucial option for many students that otherwise may not have continued their education in the public school system.

Melissa believes that all of Rhode Island's children and adults should have the tools to be able to pursue any job opportunity they desire, and recognizes that strengthening public schools ensures the future of a well educated, highly skilled, and motivated workforce for our state. She also believes that our schools' crumbling and antiquated infrastructure is a barrier to learning and is an issue that needs to be immediately addressed at the state level.
