Issue Position

My parents taught me from a young age that love is love, which is why I have always been a staunch supporter of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights. In 2011, I rallied alongside Bay Ridge Democrats and Lambda Independent Democrats in support of marriage equality. I am a proud member of LID and have hired LGBTQ staff to help lead my campaign. While there has been a lot of progress in the fight for equality, there is still a lot of work to do.

My pledge to expand and protect the rights of LGBTQ individuals includes:

Passing the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA), which will add "sex and gender identity" to the list of classes protected from discrimination in New York State.

Ensuring that LGBTQ people can live openly without discrimination and enjoy equal rights, personal autonomy, and freedom of expression and association.

Supporting the NYS Blueprint to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York State by 2020.

Increasing funding for health services and banning conversion therapy.

Expanding the duties of the Office of Children and Family Services concerning LGBTQ runaway and homeless youth.

Enacting measures to curb bullying and cyber-bullying.
