Floridians deserve safe and stable housing. In District 70, more than half of the residents use up to 30 percent of their income on housing. This makes it increasingly difficult for people, at varying income levels, to access affordable housing consistently. Residents who have lived in an area and contributed to the community do not deserve to be pushed out of their homes; which for many is their only tangible asset.
The COVID-19 pandemic is highlighting the severity of housing insecurity across the District, the state and the nation. We know that people who were struggling to secure stable housing are more vulnerable now, as are those experiencing homelessness. Essential workers making minimum wage shouldn't have to fear not having stable housing while providing services to our communities. Michele is committed to passing legislation to repeal outdated anti-tenant statutes and to ensure the Sadowski Trust Fund is fully-funded and will vote against appropriating those monies to any other area. Michele will work to ensure that a safe place to live isn't a luxury afforded to the few, but a reality for all residents in the District.
