The Texas economic and health crises pose difficult, painful challenges for millions of Texas families. As of spring 2020, more than two million Texans are out of work. The Texas Workforce Commission is swamped with unemployment benefit applications. Texas families are suffering. Wages have stagnated while cost of living continues to rise, threatening the hopes and dreams of Texas families.
As Senate Chair of the Eagle Ford Legislative Caucus, Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Economic Development, and member of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce, Senator Judith Zaffirini is positioned uniquely to address these challenges and to advance policies that promote economic growth, spur job creation, and help families get back on their feet.
She believes strongly that all working Texans deserve a living wage and paid sick leave. She also understands that creating high-quality jobs doesn't simply happen: It requires action, including investing in modern technologies such as wind and solar energy; building and maintaining our roads, bridges, dams, and schools; expanding access to broadband internet; and providing world-class education and job training to every Texan.
When the Texas Legislature meets in 2021, Senator Zaffirini will be at the forefront of sponsoring new jobs legislation, such as free community college job training programs, infrastructure construction, higher minimum wages, and worker safety programs. Senator Zaffirini already is working on plans to put Texans back to work with dignity and respect for every worker's health and safety--because it's part of her job for Texas families.
