Issue Position

I have worked in the Douglas County Public Defender's office for seven years, and have seen every day the way systemic racism and a culture of mass incarceration has harmed communities in Omaha. The law is disproportionately enforced and unequally applied against people of color, and it's time to end that injustice. It's time to end mass incarceration by reducing our prison population and putting more money into mental health, drug treatment, and reentry programs. I support ending cash bail for nonviolent offenses. I will also strongly oppose any efforts to create private prisons in Nebraska.
