Issue Position: Quality Education and Teacher Pay

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020
Issues: Education

Every child deserves a quality education, with a range of school choices to meet his or her academic needs, abilities, goals, and interests. As a county commissioner, Amy has consistently advocated for increasing the budget for the Alamance Burlington School System. The local supplement increased by 16% in the last three years, under Amy's watch. Amy also advocated for the 2018 important school bond referendum, which was desperately needed to make important repairs and add capacity to school facilities, and she voted to implement the tax increase needed to pay for the bonds. The most important element of a quality education is a first class teacher. During her time as county commissioner, the local supplement for teachers in Alamance County has risen to the tenth highest in the state. In the State Senate, Amy will make attracting and retaining the best public school teachers one of her top priorities by increasing pay and improving our schools.
