We must limit the federal government's role in K-12 education, and keep it confined to providing resources and promoting evidence-based best practices so educators and students' families can best serve our children at the state and local level. Throughout my career, I have worked alongside some of the smartest K-12 education professionals in the country, and they have given me a great respect for the challenging and often thankless work of educating the next generation of Americans.
We also need to ensure Utah's higher education institutions continue to align with workforce needs by providing relevant and affordable education. This will be especially important as we begin our economic recovery from COVID-19. I am encouraged to see universities like Weber State and Utah State lead with a dual-mission approach and dynamic credentialing that provides affordable, flexible, and quality education. Our applied technology institutions are also creating meaningful industry partnerships, reversing the vocational training perception, and delivering extraordinary results.
