Amata Highlights Programs Providing ASCC Grant Funds

Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata expressed support for the programs that American Samoa Community College (ASCC) relies on for grant funding. This week, ASCC Director of Agriculture, Community and National Resources Division Aufa'i Apulu Ropeti Areta was in Washington, visited the American Samoa congressional office, and met with Legislative Director Richard Stanton to discuss ASCC grant funding requests for agriculture research, food safety, environmental protection and education programs.

"American Samoa Community College has an outsized role in our Territory," said Aumua Amata. "Our students face economic and geographic challenges to obtaining a four-year degree elsewhere, making ASCC even more essential. ASCC is also a major partner in the community for our food supply and agricultural efforts."

Federal agencies, such as those within the U.S. Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Agriculture, supply each grant through competitive or other processes, but the general programs that administer these funds are created legislatively by Congress, then funded through the yearly appropriations.
