U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-NC) released the following statement after co-sponsoring the Safe Bases Act:
"On December 6, 2019, a shooter killed three people and injured eight others at Naval Air Station Pensacola. The Florida assailant could have been stopped sooner had service members on base been allowed to concealed carry a firearm. It is ridiculous that our service members, who undergo extensive weapons training, don't have the right to defend themselves while on a U.S. base. That's why I co-sponsored the Safe Bases Act. I strongly believe that law-abiding Americans should have the right to concealed carry on military installations and defend themselves should a threat arise. I applaud my colleague Rep. Steube for introducing this legislation."
