Dear Friend:
This week, the U.S. House approved $16 million in federal funding for priority transportation projects in the East Metro area.
The funding was included in the Transportation Equity Act (TEALU), a six-year $284 billion project authorizing funding for the
nation's highway, public transportation and road safety projects through fiscal year 2009. These investments in our community
will help make much needed improvements in the safety and the efficiency of our roads and transportation system as well as create jobs, improve our environment and enhance the quality of life for East Metro families. Click here to view a list of Fourth District projects.
I recently hosted a community meeting on Social Security at the Fairview Community Center in Roseville. In a standing roomonly
room, participants expressed serious concerns with President Bush's proposal to privatize Social Security -- a plan that would
jeopardize the future of Social Security. Women in particular rely on Social Security more than men do, comprising 58% of Social Security beneficiaries in Minnesota. Click here the for a fact sheet on women and Social Security or visit my website www.mccollum.house.gov for updates.
Please check your local access cable network for the latest edition of The People's House: Crisis in Darfur. This program addresses my recent trip to Chad and Sudan to assess the humanitarian crisis in the Dafur region of Sudan. For more information on the men, women and children of Darfur, please visit www.mccollum.house.gov/helpdarfur.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Betty McCollum
