Dear Friend:
Congressional Republicans passed a budget this week for fiscal year 2006 that was called "unjust" by a broad religious coalition and was opposed by the major veterans organizations. I voted instead for the fiscally responsible, common sense budget authored by House Democrats. Click here to read more about the Democratic Budget for 2006. All Americans stand united in support of our troops, but President Bush has no strategy for success in Iraq. For this reason, I took a vote of no confidence in the president's Iraq policy and joined a group of Republican and Democratic Members of Congress in opposing the $82 billion Emergency Wartime Supplemental bill. Congress should be demanding a plan that puts Iraqis in control of their own future and allows our troops to begin coming home, not a blank check for the status quo. Click here to read my full statement on the Emergency Wartime Supplemental Appropriations bill.
Today, I depart with a congressional delegation to Mexico and Panama where I will meet with President Vicente Fox and Peace Corps volunteers from Minnesota. Click here to read more about the delegation.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Betty McCollum
