Schneider Statement on USMCA Agreement

Statement

Date: Dec. 10, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (D-IL), a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and Committee on Small Business, released the following statement on the USMCA trade agreement:

"I am proud of the long-sought, hard-won improvements that House Democrats achieved through months of negotiations on the USMCA. Compared to the initial version shared by the White House, today's agreement includes markedly stronger protections for American workers, higher standards to preserve the environment, and, crucially, real and verifiable mechanisms to ensure all parties follow the agreement.

"This agreement is a major step forward for American workers fighting to compete in our increasingly interconnected world, which is why it has earned the backing of economic stakeholders from the AFL-CIO to U.S. Chamber of Commerce. I hope the agreement will proceed swiftly to a vote on the floor."
