The freedom of religion is one of the very first founding principles of our country. We as Americans have the right to worship as we believe, and our government should focus on protecting the right to have and maintain our deeply held religious beliefs. However, in the last several years, we have seen efforts to create laws and regulations (particularly at the federal level) that are not consistent with the religious beliefs of many, if not most, of our citizens. While our Founding Fathers provided a freedom OF religion, there seems to be a loud minority that thinks the government should ensure a freedom FROM religion. That is not the intention of the Constitution as I see it, and I do not support the creation of laws and rights that require people to ignore or abandon their beliefs. The best way to address this point, in my opinion, is to keep our government small and keep the bureaucracy in check. I also believe that our state should step in and provide safe guards whenever possible for our citizens and our businesses so that our religious liberties are protected. I know without a doubt that our community, our state, and our nation would lose a lot of valuable services and charities if certain organizations and individuals lose their rights to maintain their deeply held religious beliefs. I promise to fight for our religious freedoms.
