Our coastal delegations did a great job fighting on our behalf to ensure that the Mississippi Gulf Coast received a lion's share of the BP settlement funds. Of course, we deserved 100% of the proceeds of the settlement, but in the end our representatives were able to secure an agreement that we receive 75% of the settlement proceeds.

Our work in fighting for BP money is far from over. We now have to watch how our money is allocated like a hawk, and we have to make sure our current agreement is honored. I am ready to fight for our District and our Coast on this issue. I will keep an eye on state funding to make sure we will not be expected to pay for normally state-budgeted items from our BP settlement proceeds. I will also make sure that the BP settlement funds are placed into proper accounts and used for our benefit. I promise that no one will work harder for our community on this important issue than I will.
