Lujan Statement on Shooting in El Paso

Statement

Date: Aug. 3, 2019
Location: Nambe, NM

U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the El Paso shooting:

"Today's senseless killings in El Paso are a heartbreaking reminder that our country is suffering from an epidemic of gun violence. My heart is with the community of El Paso as we mourn the loss of life, pray for the injured, and extend condolences to families who've lost loved ones.

"Acts of terror are designed to scare us, but we cannot allow this terrorism to define our responses. We must press forward with action to help prevent future tragedies, including passing comprehensive gun safety measures to end the scourge of gun violence. The House passed commonsense gun safety measures more than 150 days ago. It is time for the Senate to act."
