Issue Position: Fighting for Our Nations Veterans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2018
Issues: Veterans

Thomas is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and serves on the House Military and Veteran Affairs Committee. He is proud to be a voice for veterans in the Michigan Legislature.

Veteran related legislation that Thomas has introduced includes a resolution urging Congress to fix its broken Veteran Board of Appeals Board which has a backlog spanning three to five years. He also introduced a bill which requires the state of Michigan to include time served in the military as professional work experience.

Other pro-veteran legislation Thomas has fought for include: waiving the fee for 100% disabled veterans to enter state parks, veterans preference for hiring at Michigan owned veteran long term care facilities, and a resolution urging Congress to end the "Widow's Tax" that negatively effects the surviving spouse of veteran who has a service related death.
