Issues: Infrastructure

Infrastructure is vital to maintain our high standard of living in St. Mary's County. Roads, bridges, power, water, sewers, transportation, and communication improve our residents' quality of life and make our community more vibrant.

Our infrastructure strategy must focus on desired outcomes. In a rural county, transportation is crucial in connecting people to commerce, so it is imperative that our roads and bridges are maintained, as they are the backbone of our economy. With 80% of our economy tied to Patuxent River Naval Air Station, infrastructure plays a key role in strengthening our position for future rounds of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). If elected, I will work to tackle the major infrastructure projects impacting residents of 29B: Upgrading the Thomas Johnson Bridge, fixing the traffic pattern at the intersection of Route 5 and Great Mills Road, and easing congestion at Buck Hewitt Rd and Route 235. These resources play a key role in supporting our businesses and facilitating the high standard of living that we enjoy.

Access to high-speed broadband, both fixed and wireless, is crucial to ensuring our ability to diversify our economy. We must invest in next generation broadband networks to advance innovation in education, health care, agriculture, and opportunities for entrepreneurs in Maryland, regardless of where one lives. We must tackle the broadband challenge and close the digital divide for all citizens of St. Mary's.
