Elective healthcare is not a right. Treating it as a right creates less competition in the healthcare market, decreases incentive for healthcare providers to open business, reduces the available insurers, drives up healthcare spending, and decreases healthcare quality. While much of health care law is dictated at the federal level, every effort should be taken at the state level to ensure access to quality health care, choice of providers, and competition in the healthcare and payer market.
