Representative Darby works hard for our school children, their parents, and the teachers who serve them. Since entering the Legislature, his focus has been on local control for schools and on student performance, not overburdening standardized tests and state government bureaucracy. He believes the framers of the Texas Constitution were right when they proclaimed: "A general diffusion of knowledge being essential to the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people, it shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools." He is proud to support retired teachers by ensuring their pension fund is fiscally sound because it is a commitment the Legislature has made and needs to uphold. As a former member of the Higher Education committee, Drew continues to work to ensure our regional universities and community colleges are delivering affordable career advancement for students and their families.
