Cleaning up the St. Lucie River, Lake Okeechobee, the Indian River Lagoon, and the Everglades is Gayle's number 1 priority. Gayle passed Legacy Florida which will provide over $4 billion of Amendment 1 for Everglades Restoration with priority given to stopping the releases from Lake Okeechobee. She secured over $60 million for the St. Lucie River Issues Team, $175 million for Lake Okeechobee and Estuary Recovery Plan and worked to fund the Everglades Restoration Plan with over $2. billion during her service in the legislature. Gayle Harrell has been and will continue to be an effective advocate for restoring and cleaning up these natural wonders. She supports the proposal to purchase land south of Lake Okeechobee to build a reservoir, storm water treatment areas and send water south.
