My life began as the result of an unplanned pregnancy, and I'm thankful my birth mother chose life. As an adopted child, I have a deeply personal perspective on the value of human life: I was born on Valentine's Day 1963 and was welcomed into my new family the day after I was born.

Because of my birth mother's brave decision, I've had the opportunity to experience the joys and challenges of life, raise a family, know the great love of my Savior, and I hope in turn to have impacted the lives of others. I believe all unborn children should have those same opportunities. No society that denies the basic right to life can possibly claim to offer freedom.

We must protect the sacredness of life from conception to natural death, including protections for the elderly and those with physical or mental disabilities. If we do not, true liberty and any subsequent pursuit of happiness are impossible. I believe that all people have dignity. The way we treat the defenseless among us is the measure of the nobility of our culture.
