The War on Drugs became the Opioid Epidemic when the demographic changed. Addicts and users need treatment -- not incarceration. And, those in our criminal justice system need more treatment options within the system. There have been great strides made by the state over the past year, but we must do more and make sure all are aware of new programs. Insurance companies must be held responsible to cover treatment of addictions and other behavioral health issues as they do physical medical conditions.
