Issue Position

Reducing Costs of Medical Insurance. As a small business owner, I provide health insurance to my employees because I believe it is the right thing to do. Therefore, I know firsthand the high cost of providing healthcare insurance and the ever increasing premiums and prescription drug costs. Legislators have to find a way to make sure everyone has access to affordable healthcare that includes preventative care and incentives for wellness.

Medicaid Expansion. I support Medicaid expansion to provide affordable healthcare to every North Carolinian. Expanding Federal Medicaid would allow 500,000 lower income earners the opportunity to obtain quality and affordable healthcare. For too long, the Republican leaders have used this issue to play politics rather than doing what's right for our state. Their actions have already cost the state $6 billion. I will be a strong advocate to help our state fix the out-of-control costs and policies that are hurting all of us.

Establish a statewide health insurance exchange. I support establishing a State exchange system that will allow individuals and families to have expanded access to medical insurance. An exchange will foster competition in the marketplace and drive down prices for health insurance premiums.
