Religious liberty is non-negotiable.
Our Constitution secures fundamental rights for every person, and one of the most fundamental rights is the right to exercise your faith freely. Too many times, the phrase, "separation of church and state' has been twisted to mean "keep faith out of public life' or, "leaders should check their values at the door when making decisions about right and wrong.' That understanding is a mistake, and as governor, I will work to defend the freedom of every Tennessean to live his or her values.

There are two sexes: female and male. Most education issues are best decided at the local level--not by far away bureaucrats who think they know best. That is why I opposed President Obama's top-down directive for a single bathroom policy that was divisive and destructive for our schools and our kids. I'll oppose any attempt by the federal government or any interest group to intimidate communities who hold a common sense view of gender, and we'll defend the freedom of our local schools.
