Carter Introduces Bill To Increase DHS Transparency

Congressman John Carter (TX-31) has introduced H.R. 6447, the Department of Homeland Security Chief Data Officer Authorization Act, to increase transparency between the agency, Congress and the public. This legislation creates a Chief Data Officer in each of DHS' twenty-two components to collate all statistics, analytics and policies to ensure a more timely response to requests from Congress and the public.

"The Department of Homeland Security's work is of great interest to both Congress and members of the public. My legislation, at no additional cost to taxpayers, will increase transparency of the agency by creating a Chief Data Officer responsible for gathering crucial information to give a clear picture of the agency's activities, an unbiased look at the situation along the southern border, and ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used efficiently and effectively."
