Rep. Sewell Statement on Trump's Refusal to Release Memo

Statement

Date: Feb. 9, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

On Friday, the White House announced that it would not release a Democratic memo rebutting allegations made by a Republican-authored document against the FBI. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) serves on the House Intelligence Committee, which previously voted to release the Democratic memo with the unanimous support of both parties.

"Just two weeks ago, President Trump authorized the release of a classified Republican memo attacking the FBI, even after the Department of Justice warned against its publication," said Rep. Sewell. "In order to correct the record, the House Intelligence Committee voted to release a Democratic memo debunking these attacks. Now President Trump is refusing to release the Democratic memo, choosing instead to keep the public in the dark."

"President Trump's refusal to release all of the facts is another case of the White House putting Trump's personal interests ahead of the public interest. Americans are counting on our government to get to the bottom of Russia's attack on our democracy, and we cannot allow this Administration to derail our work."
