I strongly believe that negotiating with pharmaceutical companies to take the profit out of the prescribing and selling of these drugs would be a critical first step in addressing the roots of the national addiction crisis. We must also treat dependency as a public health crisis and not as a crime: our goal should be to support those struggling with dependency through a multi-faceted approach to healing--our emphasis must always be on recovery rather than incarceration.
