Congressman Mike Rogers made the following statement today on his support of H.R. 2909, the D.C. Personal Protection Reciprocity Act. The bill would allow any American citizen with a valid handgun carry permit in any other state or jurisdiction, to carry certain concealed firearms for self-defense while in Washington, D.C. Currently the bill is in the House Committee of Oversight and Government Reform.
"As a strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights, I was pleased to cosponsor this important piece of legislation. It is just common-sense that the same rules should apply in our nation's capital that we follow across the country.
"I hope this legislation will come to the House Floor soon for a vote. I will continue to fight for the rights of gun owners in Congress."
