Plain and simple, we tax too much and our tax code is too complicated. This puts a heavy burden on our families and small business. I'm concerned about families preparing for retirement and sending their children to college. It will take some out-of-the-box ideas, courage, and leadership, but with Republicans controlling the House, Senate and Presidency, now is the time to act.
I believe in the guiding principles established by Americans for Prosperity for tax reform:
Simplicity: Lower rates, fewer brackets, and the elimination of special loopholes, deductions and exemptions will make tax compliance easier and more affordable.
Efficiency: A broad-based, low-rate tax system is the most efficient way for the government to collect tax revenue while causing as little disruption to the economy as possible.
Equitability: Corporate welfare and special-interest handouts in the current tax code create an unfair, two tiered tax system and should be eliminated.
Predictability: Tax certainty is essential to a pro-growth tax system; no more short-term extenders or patches.
No New Burden on Taxpayers: Comprehensive tax reform must be done without placing new burdens on the American people.
