Rep. Ellison Statement on Spending Bill

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement on the Fiscal Year 2017 spending bill:

"The spending bill passed today fails to put the necessary focus on working people across our country. It unnecessarily increases defense spending, which has already doubled over the last decade, while cutting programs that help millions of working people across the country.

"Regardless, I commend Nita Lowey and the Democrats who defeated more than 160 Republican-backed poison pill riders that sought to limit women's health care, hurt our environment, and separate families by building a costly, ineffective wall on our southern border. The bill includes funding for critical transit projects, including the Southwest Light Rail System (SWLRT), a project I have long championed. I look forward to the completion of the SWLRT, which will help people throughout the Twin Cities.

"We need a budget that prioritizes working families - much like the Progressive Caucus' People's Budget. Until then, we must keep up the pressure and fight back against the Republican's agenda of walls, bans, and enriching Wall Street."
