U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) today made the following statement regarding U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit Chief Judge William Jay Riley's decision to take senior status:
"I want to thank Chief Judge Riley for his many years of dedicated service to our country. For well over a decade, he served as a fair and impartial defender of our Constitution. Bruce and I send our warmest wishes to Chief Judge Riley and his family as he moves to the next stage of his remarkable legal career."
On January 30, 2017, Chief Judge Riley notified the White House, Senator Fischer, and U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) of his decision to take senior status starting on June 30, 2017.
In the coming days, Senators Fischer and Sasse will be announcing the application process for Nebraskans interested in filling Chief Judge Riley's vacancy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
