Tommy Pope has sworn an oath to defend the Constitution, and he'll do so again in Congress. It's an oath Tommy takes seriously. He believes that the framers of the Constitution specifically intended for the power to be with the people. That's why he's a strong supporter of our 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms.
He also is a firm believer in the rights reserved to the States and the people under the 10th Amendment. Whenever the federal government takes authority from the states, it diminishes the ability of the people to hold the government accountable, as the founding fathers intended. Tommy Pope supports returning as many of the powers of the federal government as possible back to the States and eliminating unconstitutional and unnecessary agencies like the Department of Education.
Tommy believes that part of the unique character of South Carolina is its history and commitment to individual freedom and liberty. Support for returning more power to the states is entirely consistent with that commitment. Tommy believes government closest to the people is best, and he will never forget that his primary obligation is to the citizens of South Carolina and that the power of our government comes from the people he serves.
