I am a staunch defender of the Second Amendment and oppose efforts by the government to infringe upon this constitutional right. I believe that the plain language of the Second Amendment is clear: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
In accordance with the Second Amendment, I feel strongly that law-abiding citizens should be able to exercise their fundamental right to self-defense. As a United States Senator, I supported a bill that would allow law-abiding citizens with concealed carry privileges in their home state to conceal carry in any other state that also allows concealed carry.
Additionally, I have worked with my Senate colleagues to successfully reverse the previous administration's efforts to ban M855 ammunition commonly used for legitimate purposes like target shooting and hunting.
While I will always carefully review any new proposal put forward, I do not believe stricter gun control for law-abiding citizens is the solution. Our efforts to prevent future tragedies must focus on enforcing current gun laws, community engagement, and advancing mental health treatment.
