Kansas State Treasurer Ron Estes announced he is exploring a run for U.S. Congress. The announcement comes on the heels of President-Elect Donald Trump's nomination of current 4th District Congressman Mike Pompeo as CIA Director.
"As a state treasurer, my hands are tied on so many things that are affected by our federal government," Estes said. "I have been able to see up close the need for conservative solutions to endless government spending. Washington needs more people who understand that it is not government, but our families and businesses that are the lifeblood of our nation. We can do better."
State law requires Governor Sam Brownback to set a special election date once Pompeo resigns his seat in Congress. The Republican nominee will be elected by at a nominating convention of the 4th District Republican Committee. The 4th District Committee is comprised of 126 delegates elected by the 4th District's county precinct persons.
"In the last several days, I have heard from dozens of delegates to the committee and have been very pleased with the response I have received," said Estes. "I am continuing to reach out to the committee, many of whom I have served with for years at the grassroots level, to seek their input and guidance."
