Fischer Convenes Surface Transportation Security Hearing

Statement

Date: Dec. 7, 2016
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Transportation

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, today convened a hearing entitled: "Assessing the Security of Our Critical Transportation Infrastructure." The hearing examined security vulnerabilities in the U.S. transportation system and efforts to address terrorism threats to surface transportation infrastructure.

Senator Fischer released the following statement after today's hearing concluded:

"Over the past year we have seen an increasing threat of terrorism to surface transportation networks both here at home and abroad. From the bomb in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood to the horrific attacks in Nice, France, and Brussels, Belgium, it's been confirmed that our infrastructure and mass transit systems are at risk of attack. I appreciated the feedback from federal and local officials and leading experts today about the best ways to strengthen the nation's transportation security."
