STATEMENT: Rogers Urges Passage of 21st Century Cures Act

Statement

Today, U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers (KY-5) released the following statement in conjunction with the release of the 21st Century Cures Act (CURES). On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on the legislation that includes $4.8 billion in discretionary funding for the National Institutes of Health, $1 billion for state grants to fight opioid abuse, and $500 million to the Food and Drug Administration to fast-track critical medications and devices to market.

"Not only will the 21st Century Cures Act move our country's medical research forward, but it will also spur continued innovation by speeding up the approval process for medical therapies and devices. In addition, after advocating for over a decade for a coordinated federal response to opioid abuse and addiction, I am pleased that CURES paves the way for a significant investment in prevention and treatment. This legislation will improve healthcare and save American lives, and I am committed to working with my colleagues in both the House and the Senate to follow through on the funding to make the promise of this legislation a reality. I applaud Chairman Upton and Chairman Alexander for finalizing this landmark legislation."
